From Belgium to the Shores of Amelia Island
Joelle Crahay was born in Belgium and relocated to the United States in 1982, eventually finding her heart's home on the breathtaking shores of Amelia Island, Florida. There, surrounded by sea turtles, shorebirds, and the rhythm of the tides, she found the inspiration that has shaped her writing career.
A dedicated writer and poet, Joelle has authored more than 21 books for children β spanning picture books, educational titles, poetry collections, and activity books. At the heart of her most beloved series is Teddy the Tortoise, a gentle and curious character who faces life's little misadventures with warmth and humor on Amelia Island.
The island teaches me something new every day β about patience, about nature, about the importance of small moments. I try to share that wonder with the young readers who open my books.
Joelle lives on Amelia Island with her husband, surrounded by the natural beauty that continues to inspire her writing every day. Her work reflects a deep love for animals, nature, and the diverse cultural tapestry that makes the island community so special.
Her books are available in multiple languages including English, French, Spanish, and Esperanto β a testament to her Belgian roots and her belief that great stories should be shared across all languages and cultures. The beautiful poetry woven throughout her books was written by her father, whose lyrical voice adds a deeply personal and heartfelt dimension to her stories.
