From Belgium to the Shores of Amelia Island
Joelle Crahay is a Belgian-born writer who now lives on Amelia Island. Since retiring, she has enjoyed writing children's books inspired by the natural world around her.
Her Teddy the Tortoise series grew out of a lecture on gopher tortoises and the many species that depend on them. This idea of cooperation in nature became the heart of her stories, which gently explore themes of sharing, inclusion, and helping one another.
The island teaches me something new every day — about patience, about nature, about the importance of small moments. I try to share that wonder with the young readers who open my books.
Joelle writes for the joy of storytelling. Her books reflect a love of animals, nature, and the quiet lessons found in everyday moments.
Some of her books are available in multiple languages, including English, French, Spanish, and Esperanto, reflecting her belief that stories can be shared simply and across cultures.
